- According to Innovacc , the Agency for Business Competitiveness in Catalunya has awarded grants to three business clusters developing several R&D projects for the meat industry.
- Circupro: aims to promote the circular economy to obtain high-quality protein from meat by-products. Participating companies include Matadero Frigorífico de Avinyó, Aprot Sciences, Activa Food Tech, Catalana de Embutidos, and Innovacc . The project budget is €99,961.06, and the grant amounts to €63,729.47.
- Emotan: a project to create bio-based food coatings from leather waste and forest tannins. The project involves the Barcelona Leather Cluster Association, the University of Lleida, the Molet Institute of Technology Laboratories, JB Packaging Sostenible, and Innovacc . The project has a budget of €99,227.82 and has received a grant of €63,423.33.
- Coralia: a project involving by.nunaSolutions, Frigorifics Costa Brava, Imec Installacions, and Innovacc, which aims to implement an intelligent system for environmental control, traceability, and water consumption monitoring in slaughterhouse holding pens using artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. They have been awarded a grant of €61,642.49 for a total budget of €99,985.33.
- Japan has agreed to resume imports of certain consignments of Spanish pork from the area near Barcelona where an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) was previously detected. The decision applies to products that were processed and refrigerated before the virus was identified in the region. This was reported by the head of the Agriculture Department of the autonomous community of Catalonia, commenting on Japan’s decision.
