Dear readers,

This newsletter is a personal project started to bring some positive news for the pig industry. It is supported by my employers and I am also grateful for the information received from friends and partners. As in the last 6 years, in the period of holidays, we will resume only to the good news:

  •  As part of the measures to combat African swine fever(ASF), the Catalan Government established a maximum target of 4 wild boar per km², 37% less than the current level. It will be necessary to capture 50% of the wild boar population in Catalonia.
  • The Dutch pig farming sector has a plan to be PRRS-free by 2040. Starting in 2026, the following three requirements will apply to every pig farmer: they must have a farm-specific PRRS action plan. Starting next summer, pig farmers must complete a biosecurity check, which identifies areas for improvement in biosecurity. Also, PRRS virus monitoring must be performed three times a year using blood tests.
  • The Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China has published the final tariff rates on imports of pork and pork by-products from the European Union, Compared with the previous provisional measures, China has significantly reduced the tariff levels, and Spain has managed to minimize the negative impact by being placed in the lowest tariff range, Litera Meat obtaining a tariff of 4.9%
  • Canada has reached an agreement with the Philippines on the application of an ASF zoning mechanism in the event of a potential detection of the disease.

Dear readers,, I wish you Merry Christmas!
